In recent years, many young people have been facing significant emotional challenges. The fast pace of changes in society, along with the physical and mental shifts that accompany growing up, academic pressures, and high expectations from parents and society have all added considerable stress. Additionally, issues like bullying or conflicts with peers can further contribute to emotional turmoil. If these issues are not addressed promptly, they can lead to serious consequences, including self-harm. It is crucial to equip children and young people with essential social and emotional skills early on. This includes helping them learn to identify and manage their emotions, recognize their strengths, improve their communication abilities, and foster a supportive and safe environment for healthy development.
The concept of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) was introduced by CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning), an American organization, and has become a prominent educational trend around the globe. LEAP’s SEL curriculum is built upon CASEL’s theoretical framework and consists of six topics. These topics were developed based on a prior survey conducted by our organization that explored the social and emotional needs of elementary school students, along with valuable input from teachers, ensuring they are suited to the developmental stages of young learners.
Currently the Social and Emotional Programme is available in Chinese only. To book or enquire about the programme, please contact Ms. Joyce Chow (joycec@leap.org.hk) on 2530 0018.
