LEAP Participates in GBA Anti-Drug Summit

In September 2025, LEAP was honoured to participate in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Anti-Drug Summit, organised by the Security Bureau’s Narcotics Division and Action Committee Against Narcotics. This event offered a valuable opportunity for stakeholders to share best practices and strategies in combating drug-related issues across the Greater Bay Area.

The summit brought together representatives from around 40 government agencies and community anti-drug organisations, facilitating insightful discussions on critical topics relating to drug prevention. A key conclusion from the event was the importance of establishing a comprehensive anti-drug strategy, integrating legislation and law enforcement, prevention and education, as well as treatment and rehabilitation.

Among the panel speakers, Mr Hon Wai, Director of the Social Welfare Bureau of Macao and overseer of Macao’s Healthy Life Education Programme, stressed the vital role of youth anti-drug education. He explained that their educational efforts are modelled on successful programmes in Hong Kong and Australia. Like LEAP, they use Healthy Harold as a tool to convey critical preventive education messages. Mr Hon highlighted that early preventive education is crucial in addressing the evolving drug environment, starting as simply as through bedtime stories and picture books for children. His insights resonated deeply with our mission at LEAP.

As a pioneering organisation in Hong Kong dedicated to preventive education, LEAP has been a trusted partner of the Narcotics Division for many years. LEAP’s initiatives begin at an early age, targeting nursery and kindergarten levels (K1 to K3) with lessons on personal hygiene, the five senses, and the importance of a balanced diet. We also offer programmes for parents with children in kindergarten, primary and secondary school, equipping them with essential skills and information about current drug trends. This empowers them to guide their children in making healthy choices.

Together, we aspire to foster a healthy, drug-free community. We are devoted to ensuring that every child has access to the knowledge and support they need to navigate life’s challenges with confidence. Let’s unite to build a drug-free future for the next generation!
