Children\u2019s excitement reminds us why all the effort matters. — Mr Danis Lam \u00b7 Former Manager, Eastern Worldwide Co. Ltd.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\r\n

For 35 years, Eastern Worldwide Co. Ltd. has been the steady force behind LEAP\u2019s mobile classrooms, ensuring they arrive safely and on time at schools across Hong Kong. The partnership began in 1991 \u2500 three years before LEAP was officially established in 1994 \u2500 making Eastern Worldwide one of LEAP\u2019s earliest and most enduring supporters.<\/p>\r\n

Central to this partnership was Mr Danis Lam, former Manager of Eastern Worldwide (now retired), who began supporting LEAP in 1993, when the concept of mobile classrooms was still new in Hong Kong. Bringing these classrooms to schools required careful planning, hands\u2011on experience, and an unwavering commitment to safety. \u201cBefore every towing, we would conduct site visits to understand the road conditions and the school environment,\u201d Mr Lam recalls. \u201cRoutes could be challenging, and finding suitable parking for such large vehicles was never straightforward. Safety always came first.\u201d<\/p>\r\n

In LEAP\u2019s early years, mobile classrooms were delivered mainly to international schools on Hong Kong Island, many of which were located along narrow roads and on steep slopes. Each journey demanded skill and caution. Even before the launch of programmes in these schools, the Hong Kong Police Force\u2019s Public Relations Department arranged for a police vehicle to accompany Mr Lam and the LEAP team on route visits to key locations. These advance journeys helped assess road conditions and ensure that towing operations could be carried out safely and smoothly when programmes commenced. For Mr Lam, this early support exemplified the level of coordination and care required behind the scenes to make each class possible.<\/p>\r\n

Over the years, Eastern Worldwide has carried out an average of four to five towings each month, navigating some of Hong Kong\u2019s toughest routes. Yet what stayed with Mr Lam most were the moments upon arrival. \u201cIn the old days, the students would greet me with a cheerful \u2018Hello, Uncle Harold!\u2019 when they saw me arrive with the mobile classroom,\u201d he recalls with a smile. \u201cWhen you see children so excited to learn, it makes all the effort worthwhile.\u201d Under his leadership, towing became more than a logistical task: it became a meaningful contribution to community education, one that drivers took pride in being part of.<\/p>\r\n

Mr Lam\u2019s retirement marks the close of an extraordinary chapter, but the spirit he cultivated lives on through the teams who continue the work. Thirty\u2011five years on the road is more than a measure of distance travelled \u2500it is a testament to commitment, partnership, and the quiet dedication that brings learning safely to children, one journey at a time. <\/p>
