The foundations we build in childhood matter. &#8212; Nicky \u00b7 Clinical Psychologist, LEAP Parent Advocate<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\r\n<p>Nicki never expected that a childhood lesson about the human body would stay with her for so many years. As a student, she and her siblings stepped into a LEAP mobile classroom at their school\u2014one that has offered LEAP programmes since 2003\u2014and met Harold for the first time. One lesson stood out: an age\u2011appropriate introduction to how the human body works, taught in a way that was clear, engaging, and reassuring. It sparked curiosity without fear and understanding without pressure.<\/p>\r\n<p>At the time, it was simply a memorable classroom experience. Years later, its significance became clear.<\/p>\r\n<p>Now a clinical psychologist and a parent, Nicki sees daily how early learning shapes children\u2019s long\u2011term development. When her own child began asking questions about the body and growing up, she was reminded how difficult it can be to explain complex ideas to young children in ways they can fully understand. That was when LEAP came to mind.<\/p>\r\n<p>Looking back, Nicki realised that what made the LEAP lesson so impactful was not just the topic, but the way in which it was taught. LEAP\u2019s interactive approach helped children build understanding, confidence, and a healthy sense of self\u2014life skills that stayed with them long after the lesson ended. The experience had left a strong impression not only on her, but also on her siblings, forming a trust that endured into adulthood.<\/p>\r\n<p>Rather than waiting for a school\u2011based programme, Nicki reached out to LEAP herself and organised a session for her children and a small group of families, including her sister\u2019s children. This parent\u2011led outreach reflected something powerful: a belief in the value of life education, strengthened by personal experience and carried forward across generations.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u201cAs both a parent and a psychologist, I see how early learning influences long\u2011term wellbeing,\u201d Nicki shares. \u201cThe foundations we build in childhood really matter.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>Nicki\u2019s journey\u2014from LEAP student to professional clinical psychologist and LEAP parent advocate\u2014captures the ripple effect of Life Education.
